Many of us are stuck indoors this winter. For some it’s because of COVID-19. For others it may be because of all the rain and snow. But if you’re creative, there are still plenty of activities that one can do inside. We’re going to list some of them below.
Build something or create something. Paint something. There are models to put together, gingerbread houses to build (kits are available in big box stores). Make your own Christmas cards with construction paper. People of all ages can have fun with uncooked macaroni, string and glue. There are also needlecrafts that anyone can do.
Games can be played in person or online. There are board games, word games, crosswords, number puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, online role-playing games, cards, backgammon, chess, and checkers. And that’s just a few of them.
Keeping a diary today can turn into writing a book tomorrow. Write down your thoughts and activities from day to day. Explore how you’re feeling physically and mentally. Play with words and rhyme. For many, journaling is a wonderful habit that they enjoy.
Aside from games, you can visit museums, attend lectures, talk on social media, participate in discussion groups, and help others. Always exercise caution when participating online with strangers.
With video conferencing you can talk to friends and relatives in real time and see them, too. You can have your camera turned on or off. It’s easy and it’s free. This can be done through several apps like FaceTime, Facebook, Zoom, and Skype, for example.
We want our residents to keep busy and enjoy themselves inside no matter what is happening outside. Try some of what we suggest and let us know what fun you had with crafts or cards or journaling or attending class!
